Foundation Apprenticeships are a Skills Development Scotland (SDS) initiative, providing new, work-based learning opportunities for S5 and S6 learners. A Foundation Apprenticeship will enable pupils to complete elements of a Modern Apprenticeship while still at school.
The programme allows pupils to study a chosen subject and participate in a work placement to gain valuable employability skills for their future.
Pupils participating and achieving success in a Foundation Apprenticeship will carry the same weight as a course at Higher level, with no exam at the end. The qualification of Foundation Apprenticeships are highly regarded as higher level from most Universities and Colleges.
A Foundation apprenticeship can provide alternative pathways to University and information regarding these has been shared with pupils. More information will be shared at our Course Choice evening in February, which will run during the S4 parents evening on Tuesday 19th February and S5/6 parents evening on Thursday 28th February. More information regarding this will follow.
Our college partners at NESCol are delivering Foundation Apprenticeships and this will be an option on our course choice forms this year. Pupils who are taking a Foundation Apprenticeship will spend 1 day at college and the remainder of time at school to complete their other subjects.
There is an event for parents and pupils to attend for more information regarding Foundation Apprenticeships.
