Boccia Festival 2019

Boccia Festival 2019

Alford Academy hosted a successful Boccia Festival on Wednesday morning in the Community Campus Theatre.  There were 8 teams representing several schools, including Dunecht & Alford primaries, Kemnay Academy, St Andrews School and 2 teams from Alford itself.  Boccia is a game of accuracy and muscle control, and there were some terrific examples of both on show yesterday.

The teams played each other in a round-robin format and all teams managed to secure a couple of victories throughout the morning.  There were some great examples of teamwork and sportsmanship from the Alford pupils, often assisting the other team with collecting the balls or giving them positive feedback after a particularly good shot.  It was great to see the pupils from all schools enjoying themselves and engaging in a fun and friendly sport.

Special thanks to Kerry Barlow for organising the event, and to the senior pupils who helped run it with such enthusiasm & support for the players – Mr McKay’s Prince’s Trust class and Miss Shearer’s Sport Development class.  We’re already looking forward to the next event in Spring.
