U15 Boys Football: Aberdeenshire Cup Final

U15 Boys Football: Aberdeenshire Cup Final

Alford u15 boys team took part in the Aberdeenshire cup final against Banchory Academy at Lawsondale Park on Thursday 9th May.  Unfortunately, the boys were defeated 7-2 by a very strong Banchory side.  Alford had started the game the brighter of the two teams but found themselves 4-0 down at half-time after some sloppy defending was punished by the Banchory frontline.

Alford started the second half strongly and were rewarded with a peach of a goal from captain Stuart, who drove forward and shot from 30 yards. The strike flew over the keeper’s head and nestled in the back of the net.  However, Banchory restored their 4-goal lead shortly after and went on to score a further 2 goals before Stuart got his second of the game by rounding the keeper after some good build up play by Keigan.

Despite the scoreline, the boys played very well for spells in the game and created a number of chances in the second half.  They stayed positive throughout and were praised for their attitude and commitment by the President of the Aberdeenshire Schools Football Association.

It’s been a pleasure to work with these players throughout the season, their enthusiasm and love of the game has been there for all to see and they’ve been excellent representatives of Alford Academy this season.  There is one final league game to play away to Meldrum that will be organised in the coming weeks.

Boccia Festival

Boccia Festival

11 pupils from Alford Academy took part in a Boccia Festival in Aberdeen on Wednesday 8th May.  They played 6 matches against a number of different teams from schools across Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen city.  The pupils supported each other throughout the morning and all had several good shots, with many of them being match-winning ones.  1 of the 4 Alford teams managed to win all 6 of their matches – well done to Joe, Isabella and Ben for that fantastic achievement!

The other teams all won their fair share of matches and were complemented several times by the umpires on the accuracy of their shots.  The pupils were polite and friendly with their opponents and were very helpful throughout the Festival.  Well done to all involved – and a big thanks to Sport Aberdeen & Active Schools Aberdeenshire for hosting the event.  We’re already looking forward to the next event in the Autumn.
