Congratulations to all our pupils who took part in the 2021 Lathallan Piping and Drumming Solos Contest. Inverurie Music Award Scheme Continues to Support Our Young Musicians
Alford Academy pupils once again have an opportunity to submit a request for financial support from the Inverurie Music Award Scheme. Since its launch in 2019, a number of our pupils have received a financial award to assist with the cost of purchasing a musical instrument, sheet music, lessons, travel to workshops, etc. Full details about the scheme and the eligibility requirements can be found here. Although the application deadline is 12th November, these have to be approved by Mr Trueman. Please therefore have completed application forms submitted to him no later than Friday 5th November (remember, remember….).
Alford Network Pipe Band Drummers Complete the Backstick Challenge
CALLING ALL ENGINEERS – The Performance Arts Faculty needs your help in designing/making a revolving stage for our Higher Drama Performance Exam! We have initial design ideas, but we are still trying to figure out a pulley mechanism that would allow the stage to revolve and be operated by a single pupil from offstage. Ideally it should be able to hold 4/5 pupils at a time and be able to start/stop safely when in use. If you would like to help with this ambitious project, please get in touch with Miss Murray via email: email@example.com
Alford Academy Pipe Band bring Inverurie to a Standstill
Thanks and well done to the members of the school pipe band who firstly played for the official opening of the newly refurbished Alford COOP on Friday morning. This afternoon the band piped Santa Claus through the streets of Inverurie alongside Inverurie Pipe Band before playing in front of the Town Hall for the annual lights switch on and a huge crowd of supportive onlookers. Well done to all the pupils who were involved (with a special mention for Finlay Sewell in S1) and thanks to the parents that helped out and of course Ian Dallas and Scott Niven.
Over the past three years, the Performing Arts Faculty has partnered with Inverurie Music Society which has brought many benefits to our pupils including the opportunity to enjoy some outstanding performances by world class musicians. This year, Inverurie Music Society have launched an award scheme to support pupils at Alford in their musical studies. A grant of up to £200 will be considered for pupils to help fund:
Music lessons or workshops
Travel/accommodation related to music lessons, workshops or music competitions
Books, printed music & materials for the study of music.
The purchase or repair of instruments and/or accessories for instruments.
Software to facilitate musical composition.
Equipment to record music.
Please note the closing date for applications is Friday 15th November and the application requires Mr Trueman to add a comment to the application. Therefore, please send any completed applications to the school mailbox (firstname.lastname@example.org) with the instruction to forward to Mr Trueman, no later than Wednesday 13th November. With Christmas just around the corner this might be worth a thought if you are considering purchasing a musical instrument for your child. Further details of the scheme and an application form can be found via the link below.
What an unbelievable and unforgettable evening as the Alford Academy Pipe Band provided the musical backdrop to the wreath laying ceremony at Menin Gate. Thousands gathered including 20 plus coaches of school pupils from all across Europe. Dozens of complete strangers spoke to us afterwards to comment on how outstanding our school band were. Many emotional onlookers came over to commend the band on the quality of their playing. We now head back to Bruges tired but exceptionally proud of what we have been part of today.
