PERFORMING ARTS SHOWCASE

PERFORMING ARTS SHOWCASE

Now that it has been confirmed there will be no further industrial action, we are looking forward to welcoming parents and the wider community along to our Performing Arts Showcase on Thursday 23rd March at 7pm.  The format will be a relaxed evening with performances from a number of individuals and groups across various venues in the campus.  The event is free but we would welcome donations on the evening to support future concerts.  The event will begin in the school canteen (our “Main Stage”) for a very special performance by the school orchestra, pipe band and Inverurie Concert Band.  From 7.30 – 9.00pm, guests are then welcome to follow their own choice of progamme by visiting various venues and enjoying music and drama performances.  This includes our Young Musician of the Year competition which is sponsored by the Rotary.  There is still room for more young people to get invovled in this event so if your son or daughter plays a musical instrument, sings, recites poetry, dances, etc., please drop an email to the school and we will get a consent form sent home with your child and add their name to the programme.

Well done to the Alford Academy Pipe Band who performed this afternoon with the Inverurie Concert Band at their Christmas Concert in the Thainstone Centre, supported by their tutors Ian Dallas and Scott Niven.  Playing Highland Cathedral, Amazing Grace and Celtic Crest to an audience of well over 200 people, the band were on top form.  For the majority of pupils, this was their first formal concert and the standard of playing was exceptional.  Three members of our school orchestra also performed with the band after missing out on our school concert due to its postponement last week.  Many thanks to Ian Dallas, Scott Niven, Hamish Wood, Ben Light and Nicola Tierney for rehearsing the pupils involved and for their support of the performing arts at Alford Academy.

Faculty of Performing Arts Christmas Showcase Update

Faculty of Performing Arts Christmas Showcase Update

As announced earlier today, due to the planned industrial action taking place on Thursday 8th December, the school will be closed to all pupils.  As a result and with great sadness, our Christmas Showcase event which is due to take place on the same day, will be postponed until next term.

The majority of our concert programme can be performed in any season and therefore much of what the pupils have been preparing will be performed on the rescheduled date.  Our orchestra have been invited to join with the Inverurie Concert Band for their concert on Sunday 11th December at 3pm in Thainstone Mart.  This event is already being supported by Alford Academy Pipe Band and promises to be an excellent afternoon.  Orchestra members who would like to play at this concert should let Mr Trueman know on Monday 5th December so that further details can be shared.  Tickets for the Thainstone concert can be booked via the Inverurie Concert Band website: https://www.inverurieconcertband.co.uk/

Details of the rescheduled concert will be shared in next term.

After a two-year break from live music, our Performing Arts Christmas Showcase will be held on Thursday 8th December at 7pm in Alford Community Campus Theatre.  In recognition of the challenges facing many families this winter, there will be no ticket fee, but should you wish to make a donation to support Performing Arts groups at Alford Academy, this can be made at the door.  Seats must be booked in advance via the following link (paste into your browser): tinyurl.com/aacs22.  We are delighted to welcome members of Inverurie Concert Band to our event who will be supporting the musicians in our orchestra.  The opener of the concert is sure to be a highlight of this year’s event and we would therefore advise a punctual arrival to avoid missing out.  The pupils that are taking part will be issued with a consent form this week which should be returned to Mr Trueman no later than Tuesday 6th December.  On the evening of the showcase, the members of the pipe band must arrive no later than 6pm and all other participants by 6.30pm.  Pupils should report to the Music Department.

We are contingency planning for the possibility of disruption due to industrial action by SSTA members on 8th December.  Consequently, if our Christmas Showcase has to be postponed, the rescheduled event will take place in spring 2023.

Remember to book your seats via tinyurl.com/aacs22 (paste into your browser).  Row A is identified as “Disability Access” but should you require wheelchair access, please just send a message to the school and we will ensure additional seating is available at floor level.  To cancel your ticket order, please login to Eventbrite and use the “cancel order” option.  To return single tickets, please use the “contact organiser” option on Eventbrite or contact the school and advise which seat number is to be cancelled.  Don’t forget to bring your E-Ticket(s) with you on the night.

We look forward to you joining us as we showcase some of our pupil’s amazing talent.

Inverurie Music Award Scheme Continues to Support Our Young Musicians

Inverurie Music Award Scheme Continues to Support Our Young Musicians

Alford Academy pupils once again have an opportunity to submit a request for financial support from the Inverurie Music Award Scheme.  Since its launch in 2019, a number of our pupils have received a financial award to assist with the cost of purchasing a musical instrument, sheet music, lessons, travel to workshops, etc.  Full details about the scheme and the eligibility requirements can be found here.  Although the application deadline is 12th November, these have to be approved by Mr Trueman.  Please therefore have completed application forms submitted to him no later than Friday 5th November (remember, remember….).

Alford Academy Pipe Band bring Inverurie to a Standstill

Thanks and well done to the members of the school pipe band who firstly played for the official opening of the newly refurbished Alford COOP on Friday morning.  This afternoon the band piped Santa Claus through the streets of Inverurie alongside Inverurie Pipe Band before playing in front of the Town Hall for the annual lights switch on and a huge crowd of supportive onlookers.  Well done to all the pupils who were involved (with a special mention for Finlay Sewell in S1) and thanks to the parents that helped out and of course Ian Dallas and Scott Niven.

Menin Gate Success

Menin Gate Success

What an unbelievable and unforgettable evening as the Alford Academy Pipe Band provided the musical backdrop to the wreath laying ceremony at Menin Gate.  Thousands gathered including 20 plus coaches of school pupils from all across Europe.  Dozens of complete strangers spoke to us afterwards to comment on how outstanding our school band were.  Many emotional onlookers came over to commend the band on the quality of their playing.  We now head back to Bruges tired but exceptionally proud of what we have been part of today.
