We are looking forward to welcoming parents and the wider community along to this year’s Performing Arts Showcase on Wednesday 27th March at 7pm.

The evening will follow the same relaxed format as last year, featuring various performances at different locations in the campus.

The event kicks off on our “Main Stage” (the school canteen) with a performance by the Alford Academy Pipe Band.

From 7.30 – 9.00pm, guests can freely choose which venues to visit, including further music performances at the Main Stage, drama performances in the Theatre and the Young Musician of the Year competition in the staffroom.

Tickets are priced at £2.50 and can be purchased from the Interact group from Monday 4th March at the pupil foyer. All proceeds are going towards the school fund and the Interact group to support future school concerts.

Consent forms for participants will be issued in the coming weeks, but there is still time for more young people to get involved! If your child is interested in being part of a music, drama or Young Musician performance, please get in touch with a member of the Performing Arts faculty.

Aberdeenshire Council have responded to Parent Councils request to provide sessions looking at the digital world children are growing up in and how to support them with that. They are offering the following sessions which will be run on Teams for any parent who wishes to attend.

Growing up online: Come along to our informative session for parents all about supporting our children in their online lives.  We’ll cover tech trends, digital wellbeing and what to do when things go wrong! 

  • Parents of Secondary age young people: 12th March 6pm – 7pm.
  • Parents of Nursery & Primary children: 13th March 4pm – 5pm.

Both sessions are open to any Aberdeenshire parent.

Senior Madrid Trip 2025

Pupils currently in S3, S4, or S5 who are planning to take History, Spanish, or Travel & Tourism courses and are interested in participating in the Madrid trip in February 2025 – we are seeking initial expressions of interest from pupils. Please talk to Mr. Kilerci in room D1-49.

Interhouse Competition

There will be a Basketball themed interhouse competition in the Games Hall on Friday at 1.30pm.  Please come along to earn some house points.

Young Musician of the Year

Applications for Young Musician of the Year are now open.  Auditions are on 5th March and the event is at the Musical Showcase on 27th March.  Application forms are available from Mrs Rees-Jenkins in Science and will be handed round CLAN classes.  Completed forms should be handed to Mrs Rees-Jenkins.  Deadline for handing in forms is the 1st March.

Parents and carers are key influencers over young people’s career ambitions and choices.

SDS work in close partnership with this school to support our young people to make informed career choices and they would value feedback from parents and carers on their services. You can do this by taking part in a short survey.

All responses are confidential and anonymous, and the results will be used to inform SDS services.

The survey should only take about 10 minutes to complete.

On Thursday 15th February, Alford Academy hosted it’s annual career fair. 60 different employers and further education establishments were on site to talk to our pupils, parents/carers and members of the community. The evening was very busy and there was a real buzz on campus.

Our thanks to Developing the Young Workforce for organising this successful career evening.

We hope it was helpful for all who attended to think about future pathways.

The Faculty of Business and Digital Education are proud to announce the latest winner of the DressCode coding competition held back in October.  Brodie in S3 coding a wonderful entry that caught the judge’s eyes and has been awarded a prize.  Brodie received his Tobbie the Robot Interactive IR Robot Kit this week.

We are thrilled Brodie has won a prize and his excellent coding skills have been acknowledged within this UK wide competition for both primary and secondary schools.  Very well done Brodie.

The RYLA 2024 camp is being held at Abernethy Outdoor Centre this year. This is a week-long residential trip focusing on leadership in the outdoors, with like-minded people from across Scotland. Throughout the week, you will take part in a variety of activities such as raft-building, gorge walking, climbing, hiking, mountain biking and archery, working as part of a small team to support and encourage each other to achieve your goals. There will be a focus on leadership skills during the activities, including group management, health and safety considerations, team problem solving, and your individual performance as a leader. During the week, your group mentor will accompany you on your activities and provide feedback about your individual and team progress.

RYLA is a wonderful opportunity to try new activities, push yourself out of your comfort zone, meet people who may become friends for life, and make lasting memories. The experience isn’t just limited to during the day – evenings are an important time to get to know others on the course by organising group game sessions, exploring the centre, going for an evening swim, or forming an impromptu band in the music room.

 

Girls’ camp: 6th – 13th July

The camp is open to young people of age 16-17, and participants are fully sponsored by their local Rotary club. Candidates must submit an application form and complete an interview with a member of Alford Rotary Club.
