Alford Basketball Coach Development

Alford Basketball Coach Development

One of the junior basketball coaches, William, has recently started coaching his own primary teams on a Wednesday after school. He also plays and captains the senior team at Alford as well as playing for the Alford Bears adults’ team.  On the 20th May, William completed his Level 1 referee course, delivered at Alford Academy with seven other candidates.  William’s dedication to his coaching and basketball, in general, has been incredible and he has shown maturity and enthusiasm as a great leader in everything basketball. We would like to take this opportunity to thank William for his volunteering efforts and congratulate him on all he has achieved so far.  If you are interested in basketball coaching, refereeing or table officiating, please see Mrs Niven or the Active School sports co-ordinators for more information.

Basketball Success for our Junior Teams

Basketball Success for our Junior Teams

On Monday, Alford basketball club hosted Westhill Academy S1 and S2 basketball teams.  The relatively new junior teams showed how far they have come with the S1 team drawing with 14 points and the S2 team winning by 1 point with a 21-20 finishing score.  A big thank you goes to William, for managing the team, Lance and Christen for captaining the teams and our volunteer referees, Aiden Shaw, and Andy Porter. The man of the match goes to Ben, on the S1 team and Cameron on the S2 team.

Last week our S1 basketball team won their first match as an ‘S1 only’ team.  They beat Bridge of Don Academy 19:6 points. The team worked brilliantly and were led by their captain Lance and the top point scorer and ‘player of the match’ for sheer determination was Dakota.

The S2 team also played brilliantly, but unfortunately lost their game, against a very strong defensive team, by only 4 baskets.

The S1 and S2 basketball team recently played their first game against Westhill Academy this.  For their first game, the team played so well, coached by their coach, William, and their captain Lance.  The teams defending skills were excellent and their attitude was exceptional.  The team kept the score even through out the match and were eventually defeated by only 5 points.  The school are so proud of this young talented team, and we can’t wait to see more from them as they grow in confidence and improve their match play.
