Children in Need 2021 – Wednesday 17 November 2021

Activity: Dress ‘down’ day for staff and pupils.

Theme: Dress as your favourite character from a book, novel, poem, comic.  This is to celebrate national book week which is the same week.

This year Children in Need is on Friday the 19th of November, as we are off on the 18th and 19th Children in Need this year will be on Wednesday the 17th November.

In addition to dressing as your favourite literary hero we will also be holding a raffle for a giant teddy at breaks and lunchtimes from Friday to Wednesday.  Also watch out for the staff yearly lip sync battle!!!  Interact Club

For pupils in S4-S6 – The Ethics Cup

The Ethics Cup, formerly known as the John Stuart Mill Cup, is a competition which promotes civil discourse on a number of issues, with the main aim of not winning an argument but instead to further advance the debate with thoughtful discussion. Some of the issues from this year’s cup are banning guns, universal basic income vs means based income, outfit regulation in sport, youth quotas and male circumcision.

This competition is open to pupils from S4-S6. If you are interested, please attend a short meeting in D-063 on Thursday 04/11/21 at lunchtime.

Netball

Netball will not start back after school today, it will return next week.

Senior Boys Football

There is a meeting in the Games Hall at 1pm today for those in the squad to face Gordonstoun on Thursday. It is vital that you attend and ensure you bring the completed paperwork which is required.

Rotary Shoe Box Scheme 2021: Collection Friday 5th November

The shoeboxes will be collected on Friday the 5th November,

Can you please ensure these are returned to Mrs Rees-Jenkins in B1-23 by this time.

So far 28 are filled and we have a stock of items that can be added to at least 5 boxes so if you still have a box and its empty please give it back and we can fill it for you 🙂

We are missing 22 boxes

Horse Riding

For our pupils who are interested in horse riding, there is an independent parent led riding club comprised of pupils of Alford Academy. The club would like to enter a team show jumping competition held on the 6th of November. The classes range from 60cm-1m, anyone is welcome to enter. If you are interested, please contact Mrs Gerrie for more information.

S2 Football

Training is cancelled after school today due to a staff meeting. Training will start up again on Wednesday 3rd November.

Active Schools – October Holidays

During the second week of the holidays, we are offering sports sessions for academy pupils at Alford Community Campus / Alford Ski Centre. All of the sessions will take place at 3:30pm-4:30pm and are free of charge. The activities are as follows:

  • Monday 25th Oct – Tubing (Ski Centre)
  • Tuesday 26th Oct – Athletics (Games Hall)
  • Wednesday 27th Oct – Judo (Small Hall)
  • Thursday 28th Oct – Hip Hop (Dance Studio)
  • Friday 29th Oct – Football (All Weather Pitch)

S3-6: Mental Health Peer Educator Training Opportunity

There is an opportunity for pupils in S3-S6 to undertake training to become a Mental Health Peer Educator, please read the information below and if you are interested discuss with Mrs J Munro in ASL Department or your guidance teacher.  The first session will take place from 7-9pm on Tuesday 12th October so you need to indicate your interest by close of school on Monday 11th October.

Dress down day for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (Friday 15th Oct)

On Friday we are inviting all staff and pupils to wear blue so we can raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).  The charity helps to support and provide valuable resources to families and children who have diabetes.

Stuart and Joe will be sharing more about this charity in SDA on Tuesday and on our blog (on the Interact page) next week.

We will be round P1 on Friday to collect any donations you may wish to make following our presentations on Tuesday.
