Scottish Schools Swimming Event

Any pupils interested in participating in the Scottish Schools Swimming Event please see the PE department for more information.

If you are a member of a swimming club and your club are entering you, can you give your name to the PE department.   

Women & Girls in Sport Week

Come along to the PE department every lunchtime this week for Women and Girls in Sport week. Please see the display boards in the PE department and the TV’s in the canteen for what’s on.

Ukulele Group

If you are interested in learning to play the ukulele, or you already play and want to play with others, come along to the ukulele group at 1.30pm in Mr Trueman’s room (A1-08).

Musical Theatre

If you are interested in being part of a Musical Theatre group, come along to a short meeting in Mr Trueman’s room at 1.45pm on Monday (A1-08).

Library   

We have some new stock on our Arrivals display, so pop into the library if you are a graphic novel or a Manga fan.

S1-S3 Pupils

Our senior pupils are running the Science Club every Monday at lunchtime at 1:30 in B1-24. On Monday (18th of September) they will be doing the Coke and Mentos Experiment.  Come along if you would like to see this experiment.

Reading Ambassadors S4-6

Anyone interested in becoming a Reading Ambassador should attend meeting at lunchtime on Monday 16th in D1-46 at 1.30. Information has been sent home regarding this role, but if you require more information in advance of Monday’s meeting, please speak to any of the English teachers or Mrs Munro.

Interact Club has been organising a raffle to help raise money for End Polio Now. The raffle will take place on Friday the 13th in October and there will be a suggested donation of £1.00 per ticket, this meaning that a strip of tickets will cost £5.00. Tickets can be bought by students from September the 18th to October the 12th. There will also be a dress down day on the 13th of October, purple is preferred as it is purple4polio day.

Drama Club

Drama club is back! Grab some lunch then come join us in the Drama Studio (Mrs Walker’s room) at 1.30pm on Tuesdays – all year groups welcome!

Girls’ Cycling Club

The Girls’ Cycling Club won’t be on after school today due to unforeseen circumstances. It will be back on next week as normal.

Alford Academy Extra-Curricular Clubs/Activities – Freshers Fair

There is a Freshers Fair being held today in the theatre running from 09:30 – 2pm.

Classes will be invited to attend at set times below so please come down at your allocated time with your teacher. This is an opportunity to see what clubs/activities are on offer and sign up to join.

The fair will run throughout lunch as well.

Period 2 (09:30 – 10:20) S1 pupils

Period 3 (10:40 – 11:30) S4 pupils

Period 4 (11:30 – 12:20) S2 pupils

Period 5 (12:20 – 1:10) S3 pupils

Lunch – open to all pupils to drop-in

Lego Club

Lego Club is back due to popular demand!

Join us on Wednesday at lunchtime at 1.30 in the library. No need to sign up, just pop in!

Come along to the Games Hall on Friday for this weeks Interhouse Competition – Beat the Goalie – anytime from 1.30pm

Science Club – S1-S3 Pupils

Our senior pupils are running the Science Club every Monday at lunchtime (1:30 in B1-24). Next Monday they will be showing you how to use beetroot to test for acids.

Singing Group

MONDAY LUNCHTIME – Love singing?  Grab some lunch then come join us in A1-09 (Mrs Hunter’s classroom) for Vocal Group. S1-6, all welcome! Starts @ 13:30.

Senior Boys Football Team

There will be a trial match held on Friday 8th September after school.  If you are interested in being part of the senior team this year, please come to a short meeting at breaktime on Wednesday in D1-44 to put your name and preferred position down for the trial match.

House Captain Meeting:

Can all House and Vice House Captains please come for a meeting on Monday lunchtime in D069, starting at 1:30pm.

Library

Our book of the week this week is Heartstopper recommended by Dario.  If you would like a copy, we have a fully stocked shelf with all 4 volumes.

Pupil Photographs: The School Photographer will be in school tomorrow Friday 1 September to take photos for all S1-S3 pupils. School uniform – including tie – must be worn. Hoodies etc must be removed for the photograph. You will be released from lessons in your class during the periods detailed below. Pupils make their way to the Theatre and line up in the corridor in alphabetical order of surname (like in the fire drill). S6 pupils will help. Once photo is taken pupils must go straight back to class.

Period 1 = S2 pupils

Period 2 = S2 pupils

Period 3 = S1 pupils

Period 4 = S3 pupils

Period 5 = S3 pupils

Period 6 = S1 pupils

 Pupils will get information on how to order and a photo proof to take home early next week.

(S4-6 Pupil photographs will take place on Friday 15 September)

Creative Writing Group

Creative Writing Group is on today in D1-46 at 1.25pm – we will be covering Story Writing, Poetry/Lyrics, Scripts and Journalism style pieces across the year.
