Parent Council – Get Involved

Why should you get involved?

We all want our children to have a good education and a great school experience, giving your support to the Parent Council is a great way to help that become a reality.

The Parent Council’s primary aim is to give all parents a voice, providing a space for them to share their views and ideas and work closely with the school to help it achieve its objectives and make improvements where needed.  But that’s not all, our Parent Council gets involved in many aspects of school life and pupil welfare.  Some of the areas we get involved in are:

  • Working with the Senior Leadership team on school policies.
  • Being involved in the appointment of senior staff.
  • Helping parents support their child’s learning.
  • Ensuring the school management takes parents’ views and experiences on board.
  • Organising fundraising events to pay for activities and kit.
  • School Uniform Recycling Project
  • Alumni Project – Hearing about past experiences and careers to inspire current pupils.
  • Parent Council Pupil Partnership to support projects the pupils want to take forward.

How can I get involved?

Come to a meeting

As a parent of a pupil at the school you are automatically a member of the wider Parent Forum and can attend any Parent Council meeting, you don’t have to be an elected Parent Council member to come along.  We’d be delighted to see you so please just come along on the night, or join via the Teams link.   The agenda items are emailed out to all parents ahead of the meeting  and we welcome any feedback, concerns or suggestions from all parents – you can email any items of interest to the secretary to be added to the next meeting agenda.

Help with one of our projects

The Parent Council has various sub groups on different themes and topics, this could be Communications or Fundraising or a specific project of interest, such as the Alumni Project. We would be delighted to hear from any parents with a special interest or skills to get involved, you don’t have to be an elected Parent Council member to sit on one of these groups.

We have 15 elected members on the Parent Council – the only different between them and any other parent is that if any decision goes to a vote only the 15 elected members get to vote.  If you are interested in being an elected Parent Council member our new council is elected at the AGM session, which is the first session we hold after the summer break.  The Secretary will send an email out beforehand to see if anyone is interested in joining the parent council or standing for a parent council office bearer position.
