Senior Boys Football: There will be training this week on both Tuesday lunchtime and Friday after school on the Astro (3pm – 4:30pm). Attendance is vital ahead of our first cup tie.
Silver DofE Qualifying Expedition: All Silver participants MUST return parental consent forms to Mrs McDonald by Thursday lunchtime this week. Failure to do so means you will not be able to participate in the expedition this weekend.
Folk Group: All string players are reminded that our Folk Group (formerly known as String Ensemble) resumes today. All new S1 string players are asked to attend. Rehearsal starts at 1.30pm in A1-09. Any additional players – guitar, ukulele, flute etc. are very welcome to come along.
Musical Theatre Group starts after school today in A1-09. New members will be warmly welcomed. Please collect a consent form from Mr Trueman or Miss Vickers is you wish to attend.
Scripture Union starts up tomorrow in A1-08 at 1.30pm. All pupils are welcome to come along to find out a bit more about Scripture Union. If you were on a SU camp during the summer holidays, come along and share your stories.

Prefect Meeting: There is a meeting for all Prefects at 13.30pm this lunchtime in D068& D069. Attendance is essential as important training will take place. See you there.
Pipe Band: Could all Pipe Band members please ensure that you have your instruments with you tomorrow for the Awards Ceremony and be dressed in full school uniform. Report to the Music Research area after registering with your Period 1 teacher.
Concert Band: Could all members of the Concert Band please remember to bring your instruments with you on Wednesday and not Thursday for the Awards Ceremony.
The Musical Theatre Group will not meet this week.
Lockers: With the end of term nearly with us, all pupil lockers must be emptied and left clean by the end of Lunchtime, this Friday. Please reset your locker to a random code and leave your locker empty and locked. Your assistance with this will make it quicker and easier to service the lockers ready for next session. If your locker is not left clean and empty by this time, you may lose the option of having a locker next session. Lockers will be available again from the start of next term to those completing a locker request form.
Bronze Duke of Edinburgh: A reminder to pupils that they must hand in their consent forms as soon as possible or they will not be allowed to come on the Bronze expedition after the summer. If you have lost your form come to C1-34 today or tomorrow for a new one.
All pupils: Alford Academy is holding a Race for Life Walk to raise money for Cancer Research, on Wednesday 28 June 2017 between the end of morning break and the start of lunchtime. The route for the walk is approximately 5K/3 miles through the campus grounds and the adjacent playing fields so all pupils must wear suitable footwear for walking. In the event of bad weather, the event will be rescheduled to Friday 30 June. Donations for Cancer Research UK will be collected on the day of the event – the minimum recommended donation is £1. Every penny donated helps to fight cancer.
S1-3 Girls Football festival: Active Schools are holding an S1-3 girls football tournament on Monday 22nd May, 4-5.30pm at school against Aboyne, Kemnay and The Gordon Schools. The tournament is open to any girls in S1-3, you don’t need to attend the training sessions. If you fancy coming and giving it a try, even if it’s your first time, please add your name to the sign up sheet in PE. Today is the last day to sign up for it.

Running club: There will be no running club today due to a staff meeting. It will be on again next week.
The Musical Theatre group are auditioning for the roles of Tracy and Edna from Hairspray today in room A1-09 starting at 1:30pm. Be prepared to sing and read a small part of script. All new members are welcome to audition, please see a member of the Performing Arts Faculty if you are interested. There will also be a rehearsal from 3:45 – 4:45 in A1-09. Filmmaking Club (S4-S6) Filmmaking will begin again on Wednesday 1st of February. The first day back will be a catch up session where we will finalise planning for the shoot beginning next week and discuss what the clubs next project will be. It will run at the usual time and place from 3.50-4.50 in the Business Education and Computing Department.
Open Boys Basketball Team – Please see paper bulletin for list of names of pupils to meet in the sports hall on Thursday 2 Feb at 1.50pm for a photo opportunity and to collect their trophies for winning the Grampian Section Basketball League.
Bronze Duke of Edinburgh: A quick reminder to finish setting up eDofE with a Skill, Physical and Volunteering choice. A list of pupils with something to finish is on the Duke of Edinburgh notice board (located behind the table at the entrance to Block C and Block B). For help speak to Miss Shepherd (C1-34) before next week’s session.
Musical Theatre: The Musical theatre group will not be rehearsing this Tuesday 24th of January. There will however be a rehearsal on Wednesday lunchtime at 1:30 in A1-09. We will be rehearsing a scene from Hairspray and all new members are welcome. Please ask a member of the Performing Arts faculty if you require more information.
Volunteering Opportunity: There is an opportunity for a couple of pupils to help out the Primary school with stamping books. This would involve a couple of lunch times to suit, with the time invested being able to be claimed against volunteering awards, as well as being a huge support to the Primary school. If interested or wanting to know more, please speak to Mr Gardner in the first instance.
Eliminators Hip Hop group has unfortunately had to be cancelled this term. Hopefully it will be up and running again in term 4.
To all the skiers who have signed up for the school ski team: The ski centre is offering three race training sessions to prepare for the upcoming ski race to be held at the Lecht Ski Centre. The dates of the training sessions are – this Friday 13th January, Friday 20th January, and Friday 27th January. The sessions will run from 3.15pm to 4.45pm, and will cost £4.80 per session. Please collect a consent form from Miss Macfarlane asap.
Silver Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Training: The first Silver DofE expedition training meeting will take place this Thursday (12th January) after school 3-5pm in C1-31. Please hand outstanding parent consent forms to Mrs McDonald (D0-61) before the meeting. All must attend.
Duke of Edinburgh – Bronze group: The sixth after school session will be held on Thursday 12th January in D0-69 starting at 3pm and finishing by 4.30pm. Please bring your completed route cards and the three sheets stating what you have chosen to do for the Skill, Physical and Volunteering sections. If there are any problems please speak to Miss Shepherd (Room C1-34) before Thursday.
Doctors at Work Placement for current S5 pupils: Pupils applying to Medical School for 2018 start should apply for this course. Forms need to be completed and returned as soon as possible as there are limited places available. Paperwork available by email please come and see Mrs Talbot asap.
Musical Theatre group: The musical theatre group will start next Tuesday, 17th January. We will be rehearsing a scene from a musical which will include; dance, song and acting. The group is open to all year groups and new members are welcome. Rehearsals take place in A-109, from 3.45 until 4.45pm. S1-S3 Pupils: Interhouse Table Hockey: The Interhouse table hockey competition will take place on Tuesday 22nd at 1.20pm in the games hall. Sign up sheets can be found on the PSE room door. You must sign up before the end of the day on Monday. House points will be awarded to everyone taking part, with extra for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Children in Need: is on Friday 18 November. This year’s theme is Spotacular so we encourage you to wear as many spots as you can, or dress as you please for a £1 donation. You can pay your £1 at the pupil foyer from Thursday lunchtime this week. Children in Need merchandise will also be sold then.
