Apprenticeship opportunities – SSE

Trainee Smart Meter Installer (Fixed Term Contract until December 2020)

£29,603 per year (once fully trained) plus up to £7,000 deferred loyalty bonus scheme paid in 4 years

The Smart Metering Programme is one of the most ambitious and important energy saving projects the UK has ever seen. At SSE alone, we’ve got 7 million meters to install by 2020. So we need a bigger team of dedicated and skilled fitters, to help us get it done. Aberdeenshire Council Vacancy


Short term Gardening contracts available in Kemnay and Westhill


Will be involved in all areas of landscaping within Aberdeenshire Council gardening services. Grass cutting and weeding in public areas, schools and Care Homes. Driving licence preferred but not essential. No transport laid on so must be able to get to depot. Although no formal PVG required must still be able to work in areas listed above. Customers must have their own safety boots, but employer will provide all other PPE. Contract is to mid October and may lead to opportunities for permanent employment.

Monday to Friday 7.30am – 4pm.

9am Friday 19th February for a September 2016 start.

Closing date: Monday 29th February at 4pm


Applicants must be a UK resident and must be 16 years of age by the 20th May 2016,  there is no upper age limit.

In order to apply, you must have obtained the following grades or equivalent, depending on whether you have studied in England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland.


Four National 5 Grades A-C or equivalent

Mathematics English Physics, Chemistry or Engineering Science One other

We will also consider your application if you do not have Physics, Chemistry or Engineering Science but do have:

Mathematics Higher at Grade C or above English at National 5 Grade C or above Two other subjects at National 5 Grade C or above

Application process

The application process has 4 stages:

Stage 1 – Application form 

Our 2016 recruitment opens on Friday 19th February at 9am.

All applications are submitted online – when the application process goes live, if you have any problems accessing the online application please contact us for further information.

The closing date for applications is Monday 29th February at 4pm.

Stage 2 – Aptitude Test

If your application is successful, you will be invited to attend an aptitude test.

There are 5 multiple choice tests:

Numerical Computation Numerical Reasoning Technical Understanding Mechanical Comprehension Fault Diagnosis at a National 5/GCSE level.

To help you prepare and feel more relaxed, we recommend you familiarise yourself with the different types of questions and timings by taking practice tests online.  There are a number of online practice tests available and you can access these on the Oil & Gas Skills Navigator.

If you consider yourself to have a disability, make sure we are made aware of this in advance so any adjustments can be made.

Stage 3 – Interview

Following a successful aptitude test, you will be invited to attend a formal interview.

There are many resources available offering helpful hints so you can leave a lasting impression on the interviewers.
