Automotive Course

Automotive Course

During my automotive course this year I have been working on building my own racing car. This has been really enjoyable, and I have developed a lot of good skills such as teamwork and learning about car mechanics.

In one of the pictures you can see me and my classmates racing around the racetrack at the transport museum.  By Cody (S4)

On Wednesday 22nd March Kirsty Mackay, our RGU Hub officer will be in Alford Academy.

All pupils who have applied to RGU will have received an email with a QR code to scan and book an appointment with Kirsty to discuss their application and any queries they have regarding Uni – funding, accommodation etc.

You can simply book an appointment at a time that suits best during the hub day.  The appointments are not mandatory and are available to students if they wish to attend. It is a casual chat but will hopefully answer any queries they do have.

Please check your emails if you have applied to RGU and would welcome this input and help.

NESCol additional help for Higher pupils

NESCol additional help for Higher pupils

We are pleased to make you aware of short courses which are on offer at NESCOL to assist candidates in preparing for end of year exams in Higher Sciences and Maths. All sessions are at Aberdeen City Campus, but physics is also available at Fraserburgh Campus.

Over seven evening sessions in the weeks leading up to the final exam, learners will work in small groups with other candidates to practice exam-style questions. Coaching during the class will help them improve the way they approach a range of questions. We will also cover aspects of the curriculum that have been identified as poorly answered in previous exams.

In previous years these sessions have been oversubscribed, so we would encourage early booking from any interested individuals.

Further details of all courses may be found on the links below.

Senior Horizons- CV and Cover letter Session

Senior Horizons- CV and Cover letter Session

On Tuesday 1st March our senior pupils in S5 and S6 who will be leaving Alford Academy in summer 2022, were invited to take part in a practical session lead by our career advisor, to help write a CV in preparation for their future pathway.

The turn out was very good and pupils followed a step by step process to create their personal CV’s and covering letters.

The session was lead by Jemma Kinnaird, our Skills Development Scotland Career advisor and Aimee Maitland, our Developing the Young Workforce school coordinator.

After the session, pupils were equipped with an up to date CV ready for distributing to potential employers.

Pupils said:

“This was extremely helpful and informative and now I have a CV that I can use straight away and update regularly when I need to”.

“Very helpful and now I can write a CV. This helped me develop my personal CV and made me think of aspects to add to my CV that I wouldn’t have considered”.
