Duke of Edinburgh Award

Duke of Edinburgh Award

Updated information regarding COVID-19 for all D of E participants:

Given a number of young persons across Aberdeenshire are being asked to not attend their volunteer opportunity given the environment that they volunteer in, there are a number of options for young persons to move forward.

Continue with the other aspects of their award in the hope they can continue their volunteering in the near future.

Complete their volunteering through another opportunity – hours from original volunteering can still count – an assessors report for those hours would need to be uploaded onto eDofE.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a balanced and progressive programme of activities for young people.  It focuses on individual achievement in which any young person can take part and which everyone can enjoy.  It is flexible enough to meet each young person’s enthusiasm and aptitudes whatever their background or ability.

There are three levels of the Award; Bronze, Silver and Gold.  At each level young people choose activities from the three sections below –

  • Volunteering
  • Skills
  • Physical
  • There is also the expedition to complete and Gold participants must take part in a Residential as well.

Participation in the Award leads to personal development through the acquisition of:

  •  Qualities – Self motivation, commitment, self-awareness, initiative, persistence, self-discipline and responsibility for both themselves and their community.
  • Key Skills – Working with others, communication, problem solving
