Application for Prefect

All current S3, S4 and S5 pupils can apply for a Prefect position commencing this term (please note session 2023/24 S5 Prefects are to reapply for an S6 Prefect position should they wish to continue). This year, we are delighted to offer the Prefect position to new S4 pupils as well as S5/6.  Application will open week commencing 29 May 2023.

Application for Head/Depute Head Prefect

Who can apply?

Applications are invited from S5 pupils who wish to be considered for the role of Head Prefect or Depute Head Prefect.  These are the most prestigious roles that our pupils can obtain. We will appoint two Head Prefects and two Depute Head Prefects.  These are not House or gender specific roles, successful applicants will be appointed on merit.

What does being a member of the Senior Pupil Executive involve?

Our Head/Depute Head Prefects are ambassadors for the school at all times, living and promoting our school values and supporting and promoting the well-being of all young people in our school. Responsibilities include being actively involved in the work and life of the school by:

  1. acting as a role model for all pupils
  2. making sure that the pupil voice is represented in key decisions and school improvements.
  3. meeting regularly with and reporting to the Head Teacher. Ensuring actions/decisions from meetings, are carried out
  4. organising regular meetings with the Senior Prefect and Prefect teams and monitoring and supporting prefects in their duties
  5. delivering key presentations about the Academy to new parents, pupils and staff and at school events
  6. representing the Academy and ‘pupil body’ at a variety of public functions during the year, including prospective parents’ open mornings and evenings, school and community events.
  7. supporting and preparing activities that encourages and supports the learning of others.
  8. ‘meeting and greeting’ visitors to the Academy/Campus
  9. planning and delivering assemblies to year groups and the whole school
  10. attending Parent Council meetings to report on how student voice has had an impact on Academy planning.
  11. carrying out any other duties that may be reasonably called upon to undertake by senior members of staff

Selected pupils will have successfully demonstrated:

  • a track record of commitment to our school values (Honesty, Hard work, Ambition, Respect and Kindness) including a commitment to their studies and school uniform
  • commitment to a school leadership role in S5 and/or a leadership role outwith school
  • that they have and will continue to take their responsibilities seriously
  • team working, communication skills and excellent time management
  • an ability to lead and inspire.

What happens next?

The selection process for Head/Depute Head Prefect roles is as follows:-

  • Stage 1 – Application forms considered
  • Stage 2 – Interviews to take place w/c 29/5/23 prior to change of timetable

To apply, please complete a written or typed statement (maximum length 2 sides of A4) which includes the following:

  • Your full name, House and GLOW email address
  • Why you believe you will make a good Head Prefect
  • How you will contribute to the life of the school and support the school values and ethos
  • What you hope to gain from this experience, should you be successful
  • How you will promote yourself as a positive role model for peers and younger students.
  • Please give specific examples of achievements which demonstrate these qualities.

Application for S3 Monitor

Who can Apply? S3 Pupils

What does being an S3 Monitor involve?

Monitors, like prefects, are ambassadors for the school at all times, ‘living’ and promoting our school values and promoting the well-being of all young people in our school.

Responsibilities include working alongside staff in supporting and promoting the life and work of the school, particularly during study leave when your S5 and 6 counterparts are out of school.

As an S3 Monitor you may support pupils and staff by:

  • Promoting ambition and anti-bullying
  • Monitoring behaviour on school transport
  • Promoting the school uniform
  • Break/lunchtime supervision in an around campus (corridors and social areas, library, dining area (queues), campus/village patrols etc)
  • Presenting at assemblies
  • Actively being involved in school committees and improvement teams

Selected pupils will have successfully demonstrated:

  • A commitment to Alford Academy’s core values – Honesty, Hard work, Ambition, Respect and Kindness
  • That they will take their responsibilities seriously
  • An ability to manage their time and to lead and inspire others
  • A commitment to school uniform
