Junior Girls Football v Ellon Academy (away)
Alford Junior Girls Football team travelled to Ellon on Thursday 5 March for a double Header game (league and Cup semi-final)
This was going to be a tough game with Ellon at the top of the league. What made it even tougher was that the team travelled with 3 key defensive players off ill.
The match didn’t start Alfords way with Ellon getting the first goal in under 2 min. This shocked the girls into action. Alford started to pass the ball about with great linking moves. Demi had an opportunity to score in the 7 min but her free kick just went over the bar. 2 other attempts were blocked off the line then Stefanie hit the post in the 8 min.
Stefanie eventually scored for Alford in the 29 min and it was all one way traffic with the ball hardly being in the Alford half. Unfortunately chance after chance just missed the target.
In the second half Darcie came out of goals and Rachel went in. Alford were pushing for the second goal and a lucky deflection saw the Ellon forward with the ball to slot into the Alford goal in the 21 min.
Heads didn’t go down. The girls kept on pressing for the equaliser with Stefanie and then Demi coming close. Unfortunately time was against Alford and the final score was 2 v 1 to Ellon.
Alford certainly played the better football but the missed opportunities cost them the match.
Credit must be given to all the plyers for their effort and commitment, it just wasn’t our day.
The Junior girls still have 1 league match to play against Mintlaw (away), The North of Scotland semi-final against either Fortrose or Kingussie (Home) and the Soccer 7’s Final round – so lots of football still to play.
Alford U15 Girls v Inverurie
The U15 girls team travelled to Inverurie on Tuesday 25 Feb for their league match.
With some of the school buses not running we travelled without 3 of our regular players.
It was a beautiful sunny day at the Garioch sports centre.
Alford started the game the strongest dominating play and took the lead by a great driving shot from Demi in the 6 min. It was all one way traffic and Demi scored the second in the 16 min. In the 20 min Demi had to come off due to getting her foot stamped on. This altered play a little and the team lost a bit of focus. The rest of the first half saw Alford camped in the Inverurie half with a lot of opportunities to score. Kerin only touch the ball once!
Half time 0 v 2.
A quick reshuffle of the team and formation was made at half time with the forwards going into defence and moving the midfield into attack. Demi was fit to play in the second half. This new formation saw a new energy from the Alford girls. Becky scored in the 38 min and everything became comfortable. Alford’s play was very fluent with great passing moves and supportive play. Further goals followed: Holly 43 min, Becky 50 min, Darcie 52 min, Demi 60 min and Demi again in the 65 min.
A much improved performance in the second have by the girls and a great performance by all.
Final Score Inverurie 0 v 8 Alford. Scorers Demi (4), Becky (2), Holly (1) & Darcie (1)
Next game will be the double header match against Ellon away on Thursday 5 March. Letters to follow ASAP.

Junior Girls Football Aberdeenshire Cup Quarter Final.
Alford U15 Girls travelled to Stonehaven to play Mackie Academy in the Quarter Final of the Aberdeenshire Cup on Wed 11 Dec. It was a very cold and windy day in Stonehaven and with Alford Academy the present holders of the cup all was to play for.
Alford started the strongest with fantastic passing from the defence through midfield to the attack and in the 4th min took the lead with a great passing move and Becky slotting the ball home. It was basically all one way traffic in the first half with Darcie controlling the defence and the midfield of April, Becky, Demi and Rachel dominating the midfield. Kerin in goals had very little to do. Soon more goals were to follow with Demi scoring 4 in the 9th, 13th, 23rd, and 31st minute.
Half time Mackie 0 v 5 Alford.
Early in the second half Darcie took an injury to her right wrist and had to come off. Rachel wanted to move into the “centre mid back” position (ha ha) and changes were made to the midfield and attack.
Alford struck first in the second half with a goal from Stephanie in the 38th min. Alford seemed to loose their shape a little and Mackie started to fight back and scored in the 41st min. It then became an end to end game with both teams scoring after each other. Kerin in goals now had something to do. Demi in the 46th min, Mackie 53rd min, Becky 55th min, Mackie 60th min, Demi 66th min, Becky 67th and Mackie again in the 68th min.
This was a new look squad with some new S1 and S3 player joining the team. All players played extremely well in a cold and dark night in Stonie.
Final Score: Mackie 5 v 10 Alford.
Scorers Demi (6), Becky (3), Stephanie (1)
Alford now play either Ellon or Mintlaw in the semi-final. Date TBC.
Senior Girls Football v Webster High Scottish Cup
This match was played on a very dreich Tuesday afternoon. This was always going to be a close game. Unfortunately Alford had a few players missing from their team selection so changes to the formation had to be made.
Alford started the game strong but Webster High took the first blood with a goal in the 15th min. Demi then hit the cross bar in the 25th min before she hit a fantastic strike in the 30 min.
Unfortunately Webster High scored straight from the restart (32 min) with Emma equalizing in the 36th min. Half time 2 v 2.
In the second half the game went from end to end with Webster High once again taking the lead in the 48th min. Demi equalised in the 59th min with another great strike. With 10 mins left both teams created changes but once again Webster High took the lead in 71st min. With only 2 minutes remaining Alford put pressure on the Webster goal and eventually scored the equalizer by a strike from Darcie.
Full time 4 v 4 – Scorer s for Alford Emma (1), Darcie (1), Demi (2). Heading for Penalties.
Final score: Webster High win on Penalties 1 – 3.
Congratulations to all the girls for a great game demonstrating true grit and determination.
Next Senior Match is away to Mintlaw on Thurs 5 Dec.
Aberdeenshire Cup Quarter Final v Banchory Academy.
Alford Senior Girls played Banchory on Thursday 7 Nov. Having a few players missing from the team selection this was always going to be a tough game.
Alford started strong and was controlling the game but in the 7th minute Rachel went over her ankle and had to be taken off. With only 10 men for the rest of the game Alford had their work cut out!
Half time 0 v 0.
Alford started strong in the second half and took the lead with a great strike from Demi. Becky made it 2 v 0 soon after.
With 15 minutes to go Alford started to tire and Banchory scored one back. The Alford defence was put under pressure again in the 75th minute and Banchory scored the equalizer.
With only 5 minutes left the game went from end to end but Demi took the ball from inside her own half passed 3 defenders and scored the winner with great strike from outside the box – 3 v 2 with 1 minute .
Final Score Alford 3 v 2 Banchory.
Semi Final will be either Ellon or Banff.
Alford Academy U15 Girls Football Team with their 2 trophies for the season
Aberdeenshire League and Aberdeenshire Cup.
Well done Girls!
Alford travelled once again to Lawsondale Pitches in Westhill to face Ellon Academy in the U15 Girls Football Aberdeenshire Cup Final.
This time a full squad was available for the match.
Alford started very strongly with some excellent passing and opened the scoring in under 2 minutes by a great goal from Becky. Alford were in full control of the match and were soon 3 goals up in 5 minutes. The other scores being Rachel and Darcie. Ellon had a few attempt in attack but the Alford defence held strong and were able to clear the ball.
It was all one-way traffic and Alford scored again in the 8th minute, once again by Becky. 3 more goals appeared before half time from Darcie, Lucy and Becky.
Half time: Ellon 0 v 7 Alford.
In the second half Alford took their foot of the gas slightly. Ellon scored in the 37th min as the game went from end to end with Alford missing a few chances. Darcie scored in the 64th min then Rachel in the 65th min.
The sun came out in the second half and it became very warm for the players. With both teams tiring Ellon scored their second in the 66th min with Becky replying in the 68th min. With the game almost over Ellon got their third goals in the 69th min.
Final score Ellon 3 v 10 Alford
Scorers: Becky (4), Darcie (3), Rachel (2), Lucy (1).
It was a fantastic way to end the season. Aberdeenshire League Champions, Aberdeenshire Cup Champions and runners up in the North of Scotland Cup.
Congratulations to all the girls for their commitment and effort this season.
Many thanks to all the parents and family members who came along to support the girls today.
Alford U15 Girls Football Team took part in the North of Scotland cup final against Inverurie Academy at Lawsondale Pitches on Tuesday 11 June. Unfortunately the team had a couple of players missing due to illness and injury and they were aware that this was going to be a tough match.
Alford started the game the brighter of the two teams and found themselves 2-0 up with the 2 goals from Rachel in 20 minutes. However lack of concentration and slack passing resulted in Inverurie scoring 3 quick goals. Demi then struck the post but nothing was going in for Alford. By half time the score was 2 v 5 for Inverurie.
The second half started with a disaster for Alford by conceding an early goal straight from kick off to Inverurie.
The game went from end to end, Demi struck the bar, but yet no goals.
Inverurie girls were fast in attack and the second half ended the same as the first 2 v 5 to Inverurie. The 2 goals for Alford were scored by Rachel and Demi. final score Alford 4 V 10 Inverurie.
Alford scorers were: Rachel (3), Demi (1).
Despite the scoreline, the girls played well for spells in the game and created a number of chances in the both halves. They stayed positive throughout and were praised for their attitude and commitment by the officials watching.
Next game for the Girls is the Aberdeenshire Cup Final v Ellon Academy on Monday 17 June once again at Lawsondale Pitches. It has a 10 am kick off time because the pitches were fully booked for an afternoon or evening kick off.
Parents and supports are welcome to come along to watch – lets hope for a better result!
All the girls must be congratulations for their efforts this year. It has been a great achievement to win the Aberdeenshire League and come runners up in the North of Scotland Cup.
A smaller than usual team of swimmers travelled down to the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh for this year’s Brodies Scottish Schools Team Championships.
It was a very early morning start for the swimmers (4.15am zzzzzzz) but wouldn’t you just know it, the bus journey went really smoothly and we arrived at the pool at about 7.45am – only an hour and a quarter before the warm up started and before any of the organisers.
Everyone woke up and warmed up but then just before the racing started, the organisers became aware that their Referee wasn’t coming and all the Technical Officials in their beautiful whites were “leaderless”. At the same time as this happened, Lynn made a big mistake and went to get a cup of tea from the Officials room only to be roped into Refereeing wearing her sky blue Alford Otters polo shirt and her Barbie pink trousers and equally bright pink flip-flops.
There were a few minor hiccoughs getting started with the racing but first up for Alford was the Primary Boys Freestyle Relay with Coben, Finlay, James and Oli splitting 35.60, 35.03, 40.19 and 33.99 respectively finishing 7th in Scotland in a time of 2:24.81.
Next was the S1/2 Girls also swimming Freestyle. The team of Jasmine, Josephine, Freya and Laura split 34.07, 34.43, 36.54 and 32.88. Their time of 2:17.92 saw them finish 29th in the busiest event of the day.
The Open Girls were swimming a Medley Relay next. The team finished 9th with Kirsty on the Backstroke leg in 34.00 and Iona on the Breaststroke in 40.05. Emma then swam the Fly and Annabelle the Free. The Fly leg recorded at n 32.83 and the Free 26.81. Not convinced those times are quite right!!! Perhaps a judge stood on the timing pad, or a swimmer exiting the pool pushed against it. We will never know unfortunately.
In the afternoon the events were reversed so the Boys tackled a Medley. We were all really proud of how they swam, so close to winning a medal, finishing 4th. 39.88 for Finlay on the Backstroke. The rest of the times were not recorded by the timing equipment unfortunately.
For the Girls, the S1/2 Medley Relay team finished 27th with 36.76 for Jasmine on the Backstroke, 43.77 for Josephine on the Breaststroke, Laura completed the Fly in 38.15 and Mhairi swam the Freestyle in 36.06
Finally the Open Girls swam their Freestyle event again finishing 9th. I think the order was Emma, Iona, Kirsty, Annabelle with times of 29.55, 31.65, 31.29 and 29.15.
Traditional Macdonalds on the way home.
Well done to all of the swimmers and also to Isla who accompanied us as a reserve. Many thanks also to Brian Cruickshank and Alford Academy for supporting the swimmers to attend this meet.
A special mention to Iona who helped Mr Cruickshank overcome the technology of McDonalds!!!!!!
