Alford Climbing Wall

Alford Climbing Wall are running Teen Climbing which is open to Academy aged pupils. Sessions are running on Tuesday 9th July 1630-1830 and Friday 12th July 1645-1845. There cost £5.82 per person and needs to be pre-booked on the Live Life Aberdeenshire app.

Gordon Skiers Summer Camps

Gordon Skiers are running summer camps over the holidays at Alford Ski Centre. They run on various days from 9am-3.30 and cost £40. Purchasing Items at the School Canteen

All pupils require to use their YoungScot / NEC card when purchasing goods at the canteen.  From Monday 1st July, if a valid NEC card is not available, the canteen will issue you with a six digit pin number which will be required for each transaction until you are able to produce your NEC Card.  To enable a pin to be generated the Canteen Staff will take pupil details (name, year group) and it is up to individual students to collect this pin from the Canteen the following day (breakfast / break or lunch) prior to use.

Performing Arts Showcase

Could all pupils who are taking part in the Performing Arts Showcase, please come to a meeting in A1-08 at the start of morning interval on Thursday.

Art Work

Last warning for anyone who wants to keep their artwork. Could anyone who is continuing with art this year, and wants to take home any work from last year please request it next time you are in art. Anyone who is not continuing with art, but wants to keep work from last year, please come and make a request for it at lunch or breaktime, and it will be prepared for your collection. Any work not claimed by Friday June 21st shall be disposed of.”

LGBTQ+ Group

LGBTQ+ Group is on Wednesday lunchtime in D0-67, All welcome bring your Lunch.

Debate Club

Debating Club will be running Friday lunchtimes in D-062, all year groups are welcome.

Young Musician of the Year

Can all young musicians of the year participants please confirm that they are still willing to participate by talking to Mrs Rees-Jenkins in B1-23 by Wednesday 12th June.

Performing Arts Showcase

Tickets for the performing arts showcase will be sold for £2.50 all week during lunch in B1.23.  The showcase will be held on Thursday 20th June at 7:00pm in the Alford Community Campus.

Helpers needed!

Active Schools are looking for volunteers to help at their cross-country event for primary pupils at Haughton Park on Thursday 20th June. You’d need to be at the park for around 4pm and you would be finished by 5.15pm at the latest. Jobs we need help with include, marshalling the running route, helping at the finish line and giving out medals. If you are interested, please come and see Kerry in the PE Dept as soon as possible.

Food Tech

Can pupils please pick up their dishes from E1-54 (Kitchen) at the end of the day that they cooked or during the following day. We only hold food for two days so please make sure you collect within those days. You are not to leave classes to pick up your dishes but there is plenty time to make the buses at the end of the day even if you go via the kitchen to collect your dishes.

World Book Day

Thursday 7th is World Book Day. To mark this event, we are asking everyone to Read the Film. Look out for posters on Clan classroom doors across the next week for some suggestions of what to read as well as a great display in the library. Remember you can use Libby to access eBooks and audiobooks as well. Happy Reading!

Young Musician of the Year

The Young Musician of the year deadline for applications has been delayed until 8th of March.  We still strongly encourage pupils to get involved in this fantastic opportunity.  Tickets will be on sale from Monday the 4th of March until the event, in the pupil entrance, at a cost of £2.50.

Junior Rangers Program

You will see posters around the school for the 2024 Junior Rangers Programme.  This is a 6-day program open to any pupils from S1-S3.  It takes place in May and you will head out to various locations in Aberdeenshire to learn about conservation and land management, working with Balmoral and Cairngorms rangers. There are only 15 places on the program so we are requesting that all pupils complete an application form. From this, pupils will be selected and informed if they have a place. If you would like more information and to collect an application form, please see Mrs Cameron or Mrs Niven in Humanities or Mrs Rees-Jenkins in Science.   The deadline for handing in application forms is Friday 22nd March.

Red nose day 2024

The 15th of March is Red Nose day, and it will be a dress-down day with a donation for anyone who wants to wear their own clothes.  Also, at lunchtime there will be a Teacher Taskmaster in the theatre with a price of 50p for entry.  If you want to go, there will be some of the teachers in the school doing silly tasks.  Please come and watch to help raise money to end child poverty.  We will sell tickets for the Taskmaster event the week leading up to the event!

World Book Day Quiz

The library is holding two quizzes to celebrate World Book Day this week: Who Read What? And Who Said It? – Batman Or the Bard?

Everyone is welcome to take part.

There may be some prizes involved! Feel free to speak to Mrs BM in the library if you have any questions.

Senior Madrid Trip 2025

Pupils currently in S3, S4, or S5 who are planning to take History, Spanish, or Travel & Tourism courses and are interested in participating in the Madrid trip in February 2025 – we are seeking initial expressions of interest from pupils. Please talk to Mr. Kilerci in room D1-49.

Interhouse Competition

There will be a Basketball themed interhouse competition in the Games Hall on Friday at 1.30pm.  Please come along to earn some house points.

Young Musician of the Year

Applications for Young Musician of the Year are now open.  Auditions are on 5th March and the event is at the Musical Showcase on 27th March.  Application forms are available from Mrs Rees-Jenkins in Science and will be handed round CLAN classes.  Completed forms should be handed to Mrs Rees-Jenkins.  Deadline for handing in forms is the 1st March.
