Senior Madrid Trip 2025

Pupils currently in S3, S4, or S5 who are planning to take History, Spanish, or Travel & Tourism courses and are interested in participating in the Madrid trip in February 2025 – we are seeking initial expressions of interest from pupils. Please talk to Mr. Kilerci in room D1-49.

Interhouse Competition

There will be a Basketball themed interhouse competition in the Games Hall on Friday at 1.30pm.  Please come along to earn some house points.

Young Musician of the Year

Applications for Young Musician of the Year are now open.  Auditions are on 5th March and the event is at the Musical Showcase on 27th March.  Application forms are available from Mrs Rees-Jenkins in Science and will be handed round CLAN classes.  Completed forms should be handed to Mrs Rees-Jenkins.  Deadline for handing in forms is the 1st March.

Creative Writing Group

Creative Writing will meet back as normal in D1-46 at 1.30pm on Thursday.

We are going to be looking at creating and building characters for the next few weeks.

If you fancy exercising your creativity and having a bit of fun, then please do come along!

Sports Council

Sports Council applications have been extended until Friday 2nd February, If you would like to be part of the S1-6 Sports Council and become a voice and representative  for your year, please see Kerry in the PE office or anyone in the department for an application form.

Creative Writing Club

Creative Writing Club will start back next Thursday (18th January) in D1-46 from 1.30pm. New people welcome – come along and flex your creative muscles!

S1-3 Netball

Active Schools are delighted to announce that S1-3 Netball is restarting on Thursday 18th January, 3-4pm in the games hall. To attend the club it is essential that you sign up on the Active Schools website as numbers will be limited. Please use the QR code displayed in the PE corridor to sign up.  If any senior pupils would be interested in helping out with the club, please see Kerry (Active Schools Coordinator) in PE.

Albyn and RGC Cross Country 2024
The annual Cross Country Event takes place on Friday 15th March and is a great day out representing Alford Academy!
See any member of PE staff if you have any questions.
Deadline for sign up is Thursday 1st February via the Google Form which is on your PE Google Classroom or can be accessed via the QR Code on the poster in PE.

Library News

Just a reminder of the clubs we are holding in the library this term:

Mondays – Mindfulness Mondays – pop in and relax while doing some mindfulness colouring or crafts.

Wednesdays – Lego Club.

Fridays – Quiz and Game Fridays – come and join us for a Kahoot or to play board games.

Board Games Club

After the holidays, the Board Games club will be operating in B1-25 on Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes from 1:25 until 1:55.

There are lots of chess boards and people looking to play, but there are also a range of other games to try out.

Christmas with RGU – Computing Trip

For all pupils attending the trip please meet in the canteen on Monday 18th December at 8:40am for a prompt departure at 8:45am. We will be back to school for lunchtime.

Hot Chocolate & Christmas Kahoot in the Library

We are holding a Hot Chocolate and Christmas Kahoot event on Friday 22nd of December at 1.30 (the last lunch break of the term).

Tickets are available to be collected from the library on Monday and Wednesday. There are only 20 tickets, so if you would like to join us for a spot of festive fun, get your ticket as soon as possible. The library will be open only for this event on that day at lunch break.

Science Club 

The Science Club takes place every Monday in B1-24 from 1:30 to 1:50. In the next Science Club, our senior pupils will use lasers to show you how light can act both like a wave and a particle. All S1 to S3 pupils are welcomed to watch this experiment.

Christmas Concert Rehearsals.  All pupils involved in tonight’s concert should check the time for their rehearsal slot below and go to the theatre with their instruments and music.  The schedule is also pinned to the music department noticeboard.  All pupils participating tonight should arrive in school by 6.30pm.

Winter Dances : Pre-Loved Formal Wear

The dress code for the Winter dances is ‘smart clothing with appropriate footwear’ e.g. dresses, smart trousers, kilts, shirts etc.  In order to promote sustainable living we have a small amount of pre-loved formal wear that can be borrowed, at no cost, by any young person, these can be viewed / borrowed during lunchtime on Wednesday 6th December in C1-30 (Mrs Taylor’s room). If you are unable to make this time then please come and speak with Mrs Taylor or Mrs Munro to make alternative arrangements.

Borrowed items should be returned to Mrs Taylor or Mrs Munro by Thursday 21st December.

The S2 Study and Organisation class have been working hard to create Christmas ornaments all from natural materials. All money raised from selling these ornaments will go back into supporting future projects for the community garden.

Pupils will be selling ornaments at different times:

Thursday 7th December (break time from 10.45am at the pupil entrance)

At the school Christmas concert (prior to the concert starting from 6.30pm – 7.00pm)

Friday 8th December (lunch time from 1.25pm at the pupil entrance)

Candy Cones

Candy cones will be sold at lunch times, costing a donation or you can request a candy cone to be sent to someone with a note for £1.  The candy cones will be sold on Thursdays and Fridays.  (7th, 8th, 14th, 15th Dec) and delivered during the last week of term.  All profits will be donated to charity.

Christmas Jumper Day

Christmas jumper day will be held on Friday 22nd December.  Please dress festive!
